Abstract

Interview between Professor Jane Martin and Gill Cumberland about Gill's experience of education in London during the 1950s. Subjects include: independent schools, school buildings, curriculum including science, class size, uniform, religion, gender (both regarding pupils and teachers), school trips, examinations, school sports. The main subject of the interview is Gill's secondary education. However her experiences of primary school, sixth form, university and her career as a teacher are also briefly discussed.
